Driver Arrested in Accident That Killed 2 Passengers
A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter Wednesday after a car he was driving slammed at a high speed into a light post in the city of Industry, killing two passengers and seriously injuring another, authorities said.
Larry Vasquez of Whittier was held in lieu of $50,000 bail after the accident at Workman Mill Road about 1:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Vasquez suffered major head injuries in the crash and was taken to County-USC Medical Center, authorities said.
A 21-year-old Whittier woman and a 19-year-old La Habra man who were in the car died at the scene, CHP Officer Gary Montanez said. Rubin Montez, 19, a passenger, also suffered major injuries and was in a coma at County-USC Medical Center, officials said.
Vasquez was driving a Mazda south on Workman Mill Road, near Pioneer Boulevard, at high speeds when he unable to negotiate a curve in the roadway, officials said.
