Girl, 1, Critically Injured in 2-Car Collision

A 1-year-old Port Hueneme girl was in critical condition following a traffic collision Thursday morning at an intersection that left three others injured, authorities said.

The accident occurred at 10:55 a.m. when a 1982 Cadillac driven by Maria Robles of Port Hueneme, traveling east on Hemlock Street, was hit on the passenger side by a 1984 Nissan 300 ZX that was northbound on Patterson Road.

The Nissan failed to stop at a stop sign, Oxnard Senior Traffic Officer Don Mulville said.

Selena Carrillo, a 1-year-old girl Robles was baby-sitting, was in the front passenger seat. She suffered massive head injuries and was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. Selena was later transferred to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, where she was in critical condition, Mulville said.

Robles’ 6-year-old twins, Eduardo and Elizabeth, were also injured. The children and their mother were listed in good condition at St. John’s, Mulville said. Robles suffered cuts on her legs and face. The son had a broken collarbone and the daughter’s arm was broken, Mulville said.

The driver of the Nissan, 63-year-old Clara Bell Hottendorf of Port Hueneme, was not injured, Mulville said.

All three children were wearing seat belts, Mulville said.

Hottendorf had not been cited and the investigation was continuing, the officer said.
