A 46-year-old Placentia resident died Saturday of injuries he suffered when he was shot during a July 3 robbery attempt in Artesia, authorities said.

Paul Fix died at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, where he was taken immediately after being shot in the upper body, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The robbery took place shortly after noon in the lobby of the Best Western motel in the 16900 block of Pioneer Boulevard, when the assailant approached him and demanded money, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Bob Killeen.

Though Fix, who was attending an electronics show in the area, was attempting to comply with the robber’s demands, the gunman shot him once and then fled, Killeen said.

Within an hour of the shooting, deputies arrested Robert Cervantes, 31.

Cervantes remains in custody and is being held without bail. He is expected to be charged with homicide.
