SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Two men whose decomposing bodies were discovered Thursday in a car parked on a residential street both died of gunshot wounds to the head, authorities said Saturday.

One of the victims was identified as Cesar Meza, 34, of Huntington Park, said Lt. Tom Schwabe, an investigator with the coroner’s office.

The identity of the second victim--described only as a 29-year-old man--was being withheld pending notification of his family.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators Saturday continued to search for clues in the gruesome double murder.

“They are attempting to follow up leads, but there is no new information to release at this time,” said Deputy Angie Prewett, a Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman.

The bodies were found Thursday evening in an abandoned blue Honda Accord in the 200 block of West Linden Avenue. Residents noticed a foul odor coming from the car, saw a liquid that looked like blood dripping from the trunk and called police.

Burbank patrol officers pried opened the trunk and discovered the first body. They called coroner’s office investigators who discovered the second body on the back seat.

Burbank police turned the case over to the Sheriff’s Department on Friday, saying they had reason to believe the men were killed elsewhere and were left on the quiet dead-end street in the working-class neighborhood.
