Transient Arrested in Kidnapping, Rape
Police have arrested a 33-year-old transient in connection with the kidnapping and rape of a 22-year-old Ventura woman, authorities said.
Jorge Hernandez was arrested about 8 p.m. Friday in an orchard near Kellogg and Cedar streets in Ventura.
Police searching Hernandez found a slip of paper with the victim’s name, address and telephone number, authorities said. He was questioned about the crime and arrested.
Hernandez is suspected of knocking the woman unconscious while she was walking along Ventura Avenue early Thursday afternoon. Hernandez then allegedly pulled the woman into a pickup truck and drove her to a parking lot above the Casitas Dam in the upper Ojai Valley, where she was raped.
Police believe Hernandez then drove the woman back to Ventura and let her out.
Hernandez is being held in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in Ventura County Superior Court.
