A sobriety checkpoint conducted over the weekend by the Oxnard and Port Hueneme police departments resulted in the arrests of three people suspected of driving under the influence.

Officers stopped 842 cars on Saviers Road at Laurel Street between 7 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 a.m. Sunday, and gave five drivers field sobriety tests. Three of those were arrested, according to Oxnard Police Traffic Officer Mike Gregson.

Seventeen drivers were cited for license violations, and 13 others received other citations, Gregson said. Tow trucks hauled away 19 vehicles belonging to drivers suspected of being impaired or unlicensed.

This was the 13th checkpoint of the year in Oxnard, and the 37th conducted by the Oxnard Police Department since the state-funded Roadside Sobriety Checkpoint Program began in 1994, Gregson said.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, the Oxnard-Port Hueneme Community Action Coalition to Prevent DUI will hold a meeting for community members interested in stopping drivers under the influence. The meeting will be held at the Carriage Square community storefront, 181 W. Gonzales Road, Oxnard.
