GTE Plans Job Fair to Hire 200 New Workers

Crediting an increase in business, GTE said it needs to hire 200 employees for its customer service center in Oxnard and will hold a job fair Saturday.

GTE California wants to fill 100 full-time and 100 part-time positions immediately, said Larry Cox, a phone company spokesman. Company officials say they plan to hire an additional 400 people in the next six months.

“GTE plans to hire 100 people a month for the next six months, to add [a total of] 600 new employees by the end of the year,” Cox said.

The 600 employees will work at the company’s so-called Megacenter in Oxnard. Increased use of GTE’s phone network, coupled with the rise in the number of homes that have two and three phone lines, has fueled the expansion, the company said.
