Man Slain After Allegedly Pointing Gun at Police

Los Angeles police shot and killed a man who allegedly pointed a handgun at officers who were responding to a domestic violence report, an LAPD spokesman said.

The 23-year-old man had apparently fired several rounds inside a house in the 3700 block of West 63rd Street around midnight Wednesday, Lt. Anthony Alba said.

“Fortunately, he did not strike anybody,” Alba said. “The suspect comes out the front gate, apparently points a semiautomatic handgun at the officers and possibly fires at least one round at the officers. Several officers fired at the suspect. He was struck.”

The man died at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives. No officers were injured.

It was the first of two officer-involved shootings in less than nine hours. On Wednesday morning, one of several LAPD officers trying to arrest a robbery suspect in Woodland Hills wounded the man, who also was allegedly holding a gun.
