A brush fire blackened more than 75 acres in a remote area of the Angeles National Forest near Agua Dulce on Sunday evening.

The fire, which was located about four miles south of the Antelope Freeway and Aqua Dulce Canyon Road, started about 6:20 p.m.

It did not threaten any homes or structures, and as of late Sunday, no one was injured, said Tony Heiman of the U.S. Forest Service.

With the aid of four helicopters and as many water-dropping airplanes, more than 100 U.S. Forest Service and Los Angeles County firefighters battled the blaze, Heiman said.

By 9 p.m. the fire was partially contained, and Heiman said firefighters expected to have it fully contained by midnight.

The fire burned grasses and light brush in an area marked by steep hills. Rough terrain made the blaze difficult to fight, Heiman said, adding that the inclines made it difficult to bring in firefighting equipment.

“When you have hills that steep, it really makes it tough,” Heiman said. “We have to send crews up there on foot, and they basically fight the fire with [hoes and shovels].”

Heiman said the fire’s cause had not been determined.
