Five High School Grads Win $500 Scholarships
Five recent high school graduates each have received $500 scholarships from the Assn. of Mexican American Educators of Orange County.
The winners are Marely Cervantes, Los Amigos High School in Fountain Valley; Rony Geovanni Diaz and Alicia Morales, Century High in Santa Ana; Ana Laura Mendez, Orange High; and Janet Veronica Zamora, Valley High in Santa Ana.
The students were chosen based on their grades and desire to succeed in higher education, association officials said.
The organization is a nonprofit group that promotes educational opportunities for Latinos. Its members are teachers, school administrators, students, parents and community leaders.
The Orange County chapter was formed and began giving the scholarships in 1983.
