911 Dispatcher’s Call Scares Off Robbers
A 911 operator who dialed a residence to verify an incomplete emergency call Saturday scared off six home-invasion robbers, authorities said.
The robbery began about 8:30 a.m. at a house in the 4500 block of Auckland Avenue, said Det. Wayne Blandin of the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division.
Five men and a woman came to the front door pretending they had a package for the owner of the house, authorities said. When the door was opened, the robbers, two of whom were armed, forced their way in and handcuffed the two occupants of the home.
One of the residents had called 911, but hung up before explaining what was happening, authorities said. Moments later, the dispatcher called back to verify the call and scared off the assailants.
Police had no information Saturday night on what the robbers took, but said they believe they fled in a black Chevy Blazer.
