Newport Still Alive in Senior Men’s Event

Four teams remain in competition for the title in the Senior Men’s Summer National Water Polo Championships after second-round play Saturday at Corona del Mar High.
Today’s semifinals feature the Harvard Water Polo Foundation against the Olympic Club of San Francisco at 10:30 a.m., with the Newport Water Polo Foundation facing the New York Athletic Club at 11:45. The championship game will be played at 4:45 p.m.
The Newport Water Polo Foundation defeated San Diego Shores, 11-7, and Trojan, 6-4, on Saturday to finish as the second-seeded team in its bracket behind the Harvard Water Polo Foundation. The New York Athletic Club won the other bracket, defeating Concord, 7-6, and the Olympic Club of San Francisco, 10-8.
In consolation bracket games today, San Diego Shores will meet Bruin at 8 a.m. and Trojan will take on Concord at 9:15, with the winners to meet for fifth place at 2:15 p.m. The losers will play for seventh place at 1 p.m. The third-place game is set for 3:30 p.m.
