Playmates to Market Captain Kangaroo Toys
Costa Mesa-based Playmates Toys Inc. has entered a master licensing agreement with Saban Entertainment to manufacture and market toys based on the “All New Captain Kangaroo” television show that will premiere this fall.
The new show will feature preschool toys styled after the original, baby boom era show’s major characters: the venerable Captain, Mr. Greenjeans, Mr. Moose, Bunny Rabbit and Grandfather Clock.
However, this is the ‘90s, so the show will be updated--and so will Playmates’ toy offerings. Joining the Captain will be Copernicus P. Digit, a computer-animated character.
“We’re thrilled to have Playmates as the master licensee because we share the vision that Captain Kangaroo is the quintessential preschool brand,” said Playmates Senior Vice President Susanne Lee.
Playmates’ stable of action figures and toys includes lines based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, “Star Trek” and the Baby So Beautiful line of dolls. Playmates also markets board games, puzzles and action toys.
