Winalota Cash Aims at Milestone
Winalota Cash will attempt to become the second quarter horse in history to earn $2 million when he headlines the $250,000 MBNA America Challenge Championship tonight at Los Alamitos Race Course.
The 440-yard sprint is the featured race of the Challenge Championship, which consists of five divisional races totaling $550,000 in purses. A victory in the America Challenge Championship is worth $125,000.
Winalota Cash has earned $1,906,348 in 28 starts, and needs $219,962 to pass Refrigerator as the sport’s richest horse.
Winalota Cash, seeking his 19th victory, will be ridden by Joe Badilla. First post at Los Alamitos is 6:40 p.m., with coverage of the event to be shown on ESPN beginning at 10 p.m.
