It was only an exhibition game, but Ike Harmon quickly made his presence felt.

Harmon scored 24 points, including six in the final two minutes, to help lead Cal State Fullerton to an 86-82 basketball victory over the California All-Stars, a collection of former college players, Sunday night in Titan Gym.

“There’s no doubt that Harmon is going to be a good player for us,” Titan Coach Bob Hawking said. Harmon sat out his freshman season as a Proposition 48 nonqualifer.

Guards Chris Dade and Chris St. Clair gave him strong backing. Dade had 18 points on seven-of-14 shooting from the field. St. Clair was five for eight, including making two of three three-pointers, to finish with 16.

Two of the Titans’ top returning players, seniors DeVaughn Wright and Craig Whitehead, did not play because of sore backs, but both are expected to return before Fullerton opens the regular season Nov. 15 at Utah.

With Wright on the sidelines, Hawking started redshirt freshman Matt Caldwell at center, but another freshman, 6-foot-11 Corey Sanders, looked the most impressive in the first of two Titan exhibition games.

Sanders was four for four from the field and one for two at the free-throw line, scoring nine points in seven minutes in the first half. He was scoreless in the second half, but didn’t take any shots.

The Titans trailed, 78-71, with slightly more than three minutes left before St. Clair drove for a layup and Dade connected on a three-pointer to help spark Fullerton’s late surge.

In nonconference women’s soccer:

UC Irvine 2, Fresno State 1--The visiting Anteaters (13-7) tied their single-season record for victories thanks in a large part to sophomore midfielder Laura Lamb from Edison High. Lamb, a reserve, broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 85th minute.

She had also scored UC Irvine’s first goal with about three minutes left in the first half.

Kristen Roy, a freshman from Aliso Viejo High, had five saves for Irvine. Fresno State is 12-8.
