City to Consider Public Library on School Campus

Share

The City Council voted unanimously this week to continue studying a proposal to join the school district in building a public library on a high school campus.

Preliminary estimates place the cost of a library at more than $2 million, said Mike Vail, facilities director for the Santa Ana Unified School District. A city report indicates the library would be at least 20,000 square feet.

Opening a library on a high school campus would provide convenient access for residents as well as encourage reading and provide a quiet study space, the city report said.

A partnership between the school district and city also could be more economical, the report said. Monday’s approval to study the issue did not require spending any money.
