Residents Demand Boulevard Repairs

Frustrated Seal Beach Boulevard residents and business owners have demanded that city officials improve conditions on the busy city street.

During a City Council meeting Monday, residents said they were particularly upset by what they described as inaction on an assortment of studies and reports on street improvements.

“Seal Beach Boulevard between Electric Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway is one of the least attractive areas in the city,” Nancy Grgas said. “Quit ignoring this most important gateway to the city.”

Residents also questioned why more than $200,000 is being spent to upgrade 12th Street while nothing has been set aside for improving Seal Beach Boulevard.

Steve Badum, director of public works, said 12th Street was chosen for repairs because of the “trip and fall” liability from tree roots on the street, as well as drainage problems and general disrepair.

“We don’t have those problems on Seal Beach Boulevard,” he said.
