San Marcos 23, Hueneme 3--Jerry Sanchez rushed 24 times for 114 yards for the Royals (6-3-1, 5-1-1), who clinched a playoff berth at Hueneme.

Hueneme (5-5, 3-4) was limited to 135 total yards and scored its only points on a 35-yard field goal by Jeff Garcia early in the second quarter.

Jason Beck of Hueneme had two passes intercepted, both of which led to San Marcos touchdowns. Beck completed six of 28 for 59 yards.

San Marcos took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter when Kevin Bixler recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown.

Rio Mesa 42, Ventura 21--Jay Flores scored on runs of 78 and 47 yards and finished with 259 yards in 22 carries for the Spartans (4-6, 2-5) at Rio Mesa.

Flores’ effort helped Rio Mesa to 347 yards rushing. Quarterback Paul Ayala scored on a 30-yard touchdown run and threw an eight-yard scoring pass to Howie Atkins.

Jerome Stevens returned a fumble 72 yards for a touchdown as Rio Mesa built a 35-7 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Mike Anderson scored on runs of 25 and 13 yards for the Cougars (2-8, 1-6). Joe Martinez gained 81 yards in nine carries for Ventura.
