Cut a striking impression with this crystal coffee table by Baccarat.

The table is part of the Empreinte collection by Baccarat principal designer Thomas Bastide, who has been creating works for the crystal maker since 1982.

Bastide, who will be appearing from 1 to 4 p.m. today at Neiman Marcus in Newport Beach, draws his inspiration from nature and his observations of the world.

The table ($25,100 for the base, $3,100 for the top) is Bastide’s interpretation of the impressions left on the sand by a receding wave.

He illustrates this in the crystal with the delicate cuts and satin finish that adorn the legs of the table. The nickel-plated brace balances the legs, helping them appear as if they move or float like a wave.

Other pieces in the Empreinte collection include a vase ($800) and a decanter and six glasses ($2,000).

Bastide has also captured the clouds and sky in Baccarat’s Texture of the Sky vase.

The vase is created by a sand-blasting erosion technique to give the impression of clouds and the marks left by the wind on sand.

Dyno-Mite

If the sound of music or an alarm can’t wake you in the morning, consider something a bit more prehistoric.

A roaring wake-up call is an option with the T. rex alarm clock ($39), offered through the Discovery Channel catalog. The clock, 14 1/2 inches long, features blinking LED eyes, a snooze button and movable arms.

For those days when you don’t need a roar to jolt into the day, a regular alarm sound can be set.
