Murrell Has a Different Perspective

Running back Adrian Murrell looked across the field Sunday and saw the old New York Jets. This year, they’re wearing Indianapolis Colt uniforms, though.

“There’s a fine line between winning and losing,” Murrell said after the Jets’ 16-12 victory over the winless Colts.

“I know that team over there is a lot better than 0-5. They kind of remind us of ourselves last year. It’s tough for them. I saw that. I know what they’re going through.”

A year ago, the Jets were 1-15 and the Colts were in the playoffs. Now, with new Coach Bill Parcells and some effective running by Murrell, the Jets are 4-2 and off to their best start in 11 years. The Colts haven’t been this bad since 1991, when they were 1-15.

“We struggled a bit and were a little less than perfect, but it was a win,” Parcells said. “We’ve won three of four on the road, and you’ve got to win games like this.

“This was a big [AFC East] division game for us. Yes, we have problems and we still need to make improvements, but we’ll take it.”

Murrell, who tied a Jet record with 40 rushes against Cincinnati last week, carried 30 times for 99 yards and his team’s only touchdown.

“They opened up some nice holes and I was able to make some runs,” Murrell said of his line. “Their defense played well. I just had a good game.”

The Jets took a 13-0 lead at the half and held off a Colt comeback led by Paul Justin, who replaced an injured and ineffective Jim Harbaugh in the second period. Harbaugh could have come back into the game, but Coach Lindy Infante kept him on the sideline, hoping a quarterback change would change the momentum.

“I’m a coach’s boy. I understand the business,” Harbaugh said.
