Josef Marha, who didn’t know until earlier in the day that he would be in uniform for the first time this season, made the most of his opportunity.

The 21-year-old center scored his first NHL goal and added an assist as the Colorado Avalanche remained unbeaten with a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins Tuesday night at Denver.

“I found out at the morning skate,” Marha said. “I knew my chance would come and I took advantage of it.”

Adam Deadmarsh had a goal and an assist for Colorado (3-0-1), winners of its last three games. Goaltender Craig Billington stopped 28 shots, including a breakaway attempt by Per-Johan Axelsson late in the third period as Patrick Roy was given the night off.

Toronto 2, Calgary 1--Todd Warriner scored the winning goal with 58 seconds left in regulation at Calgary as the Maple Leafs won for the first time this season.

Warriner drove to the net while holding off Calgary defenseman James Patrick and redirected a centering pass from rookie Alyn McCauley just inside the post past goaltender Rick Tabaracci.

Toronto had trailed 1-0 entering the third, but Wendel Clark tied the game 19 seconds into the period.

Both teams came up short on the power play--the Maple Leafs went 0 for 10 with the man advantage while the Flames were scoreless in six opportunities.

Dallas 4, Buffalo 2--Sabre goalie Dominik Hasek was booed during the pregame ceremonies at Buffalo, then allowed two goals on the Stars’ first three shows.

“Fans can do whatever they want,” Hasek said. “We live in a free country. I try to concentrate on the game. I don’t think it bothered me, but I didn’t play well in the first period.”

Jere Lehtinen scored two goals, including one on a penalty shot, to lead Dallas to its first victory in three games this season.

Ottawa 1, San Jose 0--Damian Rhodes stopped all 23 shots he faced at San Jose for the fourth shutout of his career and Shawn McEachern scored his first goal of the season.

Rhodes set the tone by fending off a flurry of shots in the first period, when the Sharks went 0-3 on the power play despite outshooting the Senators, 13-3.
