Trustees to Consider Extending School Day
- Share via
By this time next year, Orange Unified School District students might be sitting in classrooms a little longer each day.
With a 6-1 vote, the school board agreed to study extending the school day by as much as an hour or adding days to the academic year.
“We have looked at a lot of alternatives to improve educational quality,” said Trustee Robert H. Viviano, who proposed the study.
The issue of longer days would have to be negotiated with the teachers union, but it could be worked out by the next school year, Supt. Robert L. French said.
Trustee Bill Lewis voted against the plan, saying he thought it would be too difficult to implement. Administrators are expected to finish a study of the issue by early February.
