The Pittsburgh Steelers released veteran kicker Chris Jacke and signed wideout Andre Coleman to bolster their banged-up receiving corps.

Norm Johnson has Jacke’s job.

Rookie receiver Michael Adams (torn knee ligament) was lost for the season and Charles Johnson (sprained knee) and Will Blackwell (sprained ankle) will miss four to six weeks.

Demoted cornerback Larry Brown was suspended indefinitely by the Oakland Raiders for “conduct detrimental to the team.”. . . . Florida prosecutors asked an appeals court in West Palm Beach, Fla., to reinstate the 1996 manslaughter conviction of Seattle Seahawk receiver Brian Blades in the shooting death of his cousin. Blades was acquitted by a judge who said prosecutors did not prove culpable negligence. . . . Disapproving of the NFL’s relocation guidelines, San Diego Charger owner Alex Spanos, in videotaped testimony in St. Louis’ $130-million antitrust lawsuit against the league, said the Rams or any other team should be allowed to move if they wish. The Chargers, named in the suit, are one of 24 teams that voted against the Ram move in 1995.
