Frazier’s 197 Yards Key Troy’s Victory

Share

Led by Todd Frazier’s 197 yards, Troy kept the ball on the ground nearly all night to beat Sonora, 17-9, in a Freeway League opener Friday night at La Habra High.

On the first play from scrimmage, Frazier took the ball 67 yards for his first of two touchdowns. The Warriors (3-3, 1-0) passed only five times.

While trying to tie the score late in the fourth quarter, a pass by Sonora quarterback Clint Patton was intercepted by Jeff Ahlberg at the Raider 26-yard line.

Leading, 17-9, the Warriors’ following drive stalled at the Sonora five. Opting to go for the touchdown instead of a field goal on fourth and goal, Troy quarterback Stephen Muther was stacked up for no gain.

Deep in his territory with 1:28 left, Patton’s pass on the first play of the drive was intercepted by Muther to end the Raiders’ (2-4, 0-1) hopes.
