Hall Advances to Final at U.S. Wheelchair Tennis Open
Australian David Hall beat second-seeded Steve Welch in singles in the men’s open semifinals of the U.S. Open Wheelchair Tennis championships Friday at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
Third-seeded Hall swept Welch (Arlington, Texas), 6-4, 6-4, and will face the winner of today’s semifinal match, pitting top-seeded Ricky Molier (Netherlands) against sixth-seeded Kai Schraymayer (Germany).
In a rematch of last year’s final, third-seeded Australia’s Daniela DiToro beat second-seeded Maiike Smit (Netherlands), 7-5, 7-5, to advance to today’s final. DiToro will play San Jose’s Sharon Clark, playing in her first championship. The match is scheduled to begin about 11 a.m.

Tracie Manz, a forward on the UC Irvine women’s soccer team, will miss the remainder of the season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament, Coach Marine Cano said Friday.
Manz, a senior, was injured during practice Tuesday. She was one of the Anteaters’ top players, with four goals and two assists this season. She had seven goals and six assists last season.
