Robitaille Calls for Consistency

Share

For at least the second time this season, the Kings held a brief players-only meeting to discuss any problems the team is having.

Monday’s meeting was called by Luc Robitaille after practice at the Iceoplex and the topic was the Kings’ inconsistency.

The team’s tendency to make costly mental mistakes has been evident during the current six-game home stand in losses to Boston and Edmonton.

“[We talked about] how we have to be ready to play every game,” said center Jozef Stumpel, whose eight-game scoring streak ended in Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

Coach Larry Robinson, who said defenseman Garry Galley called a similar meeting earlier in the season, was glad to see the players meet.

“I think it’s great. . . . We never saw that at all last year,” Robinson said. “That’s the leadership we’re looking for.”

The status of goaltender Jamie Storr, on injured reserve because of a groin injury, has been upgraded to day-to-day. Robinson said the Kings will probably send him to play in a couple of minor league games--most likely with the Long Beach Ice Dogs--before he rejoins the Kings.

Forward Donald MacLean is questionable for tonight’s game against the New York Islanders after suffering a minor knee injury Sunday.
