Hernandez Cites ‘Wrong Reasons’ by Recall Backers

Share

City Councilman Mike Hernandez said Wednesday that his longtime political opponents are “using the recall for the wrong reasons.”

Hernandez’s comments came in his official response to the recall campaign against him, published in the Daily Journal, a legal newspaper. Recall proponents must include his response in petition papers as they gather signatures for a special election to remove him from office.

Critics of Hernandez say his admitted cocaine addiction has undermined his ability to serve on the City Council.

In his response, Hernandez cited the work he has been doing in the 1st District, including the Cypress Park library, Chinatown light rail station and Lincoln Heights improvement district.

“Yes, I erred,” he wrote, “but I ask your forgiveness and support to finish the work we have started.”

Recall supporters can begin gathering signatures Wednesday.
