MARLINS-INDIANS WORLD SERIES GAME REPORT

Update--Hershiser’s reputation as one of baseball’s best playoff performers took a beating Saturday night when he was ripped for seven runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings in Cleveland’s 7-4 Game 1 loss. And Hernandez wasn’t happy with his 5 2/3-inning, three-run, eight-hit performance because he couldn’t get his curve over the plate. Hernandez, a Cuban native, will face another obstacle tonight: freezing temperatures. “To be honest with you, I don’t like the cold,” Hernandez said. “I like it when it’s hot. But these are the times when you can’t worry about whether it’s hot or cold, you’ve just got to go out and pitch and do the best job you can.” Hershiser, whose sinker was doing more hanging than sinking Saturday, said there’s at least one benefit to his short outing. “I didn’t get to expose that much, because I only pitched 4 1/3 innings,” he said. “It wasn’t like I went around the lineup two or three times and was so successful I’d have to change my tactics [tonight].”
