Acclaimed singer and dancer Paula Kelly will perform at the Civic Arts Plaza’s Forum Theater next month to raise scholarship money for college-bound women.
Kelly’s performance is part of the American Assn. of University Women’s “Jazz at the Forum” series.
“It’s to encourage women to get their college education,” said Eloise Cohen, event co-chairwoman.
The Thousand Oaks branch of the association donates approximately $5,000 annually to Conejo Valley area high schools, she said.
Kelly has co-starred opposite Gregory Hines onstage in “Sophisticated Ladies,” and has appeared in the films “Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling,” “Sweet Charity” and “Once Upon a Time . . . When We Were Colored.”
Kelly received two Emmy nominations for her work in “Night Court” and “The Women of Brewster Place.”
She was recently awarded the 1997 Jazz Dance L.A. Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
The performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 23. Tickets are $21.50 and are available at the Civic Arts Plaza box office or by calling 449-2787.
