Woodbridge Ties El Toro on Jensen’s Late Field Goal

Junior Eric Jensen made a 31-yard field goal with 15 seconds remaining to give Woodbridge a 10-10 tie with El Toro in a Sea View League game Friday night at Irvine High.

El Toro (2-4-1, 1-0-1) took a 10-7 lead on a 62-yard touchdown run by Darron Ohlwiler with 4 minutes 17 seconds left in the game.

Woodbridge (5-0-2, 1-0-1) did not move the ball on its next series. But the Warriors held El Toro on four downs and got the ball back on the Charger 43-yard line with 1:24 left.

Woodbridge moved the ball to the El Toro 15-yard line to set up the tying field goal.

After the kickoff, the Chargers moved the ball near midfield when quarterback Mike Strand connected with Ohlwiler on a 28-yard pass as time expired.

Ohlwiler led El Toro offensively, rushing nine times for 97 yards and catching five passes for 138 yards.

Strand completed nine of 19 passes for 169 yards with one interception.

El Toro took a 3-0 lead on a 30-yard field goal by Wes Sjobon with 6:23 remaining in the first quarter.

However, Woodbridge moved ahead, 7-3, on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Scott Barlow to Zach Foster with 4:17 left in the third quarter, capping a 10-play, 57-yard drive.

The touchdown was set up when Dave Gerns intercepted a pass.
