Oxnard Runs Past Hueneme

Quarterback Joey Rivas scored on a 14-yard touchdown run with 3:58 remaining to give Oxnard a 29-22 come-from-behind victory over Hueneme in a Channel League game at Oxnard.

The Yellowjackets were carried by Desmond Davis, who showed no effects from a knee injury suffered against Ventura last week. Davis had 166 yards in 19 carries and touchdown runs of 67 and 71 yards.

Hueneme (3-4, 1-3) took a 22-21 lead early in the fourth quarter when running back Donald Thompson scored on a 16-yard run. Thompson, who finished with 124 yards in 20 carries, also caught the two-point conversion pass from Jason Beck.

Oxnard running back Chad Pierson’s 50-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter had given Oxnard (6-1, 4-0) a 21-14 lead. Pierson finished with 110 yards in 12 carries.

Beck’s second touchdown pass, early in the third quarter, had tied the score at 14-14. Beck, who completed 11 of 24 passes for 137 yards, found Jonathan Tasker from 12 yards out. Jorge Tapias’ punt block set up the Hueneme drive at the Yellowjackets’ 27-yard line.

Oxnard scored on its opening possession, going 96 yards in five plays, most of it on Davis’ 67-yard touchdown run.

Davis struck again on the Yellowjackets’ next possession, running 71 yards for his second score.

Davis has run for more than 100 yards every game this season.
