Only Tulsa Gets Buried This Time
Moses Moreno threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns Sunday and Paul Turner caught six passes for 140 yards and two scores as Colorado State routed mistake-prone Tulsa, 44-8, at Fort Collins, Colo.
The game was played before 10,128 fans one day after an October blizzard had forced it to be postponed. The field was slippery, but cleared of the snow that had fallen the previous two days.
Tulsa (1-6 overall and 1-3 in the Western Athletic Conference) turned the ball over on its first six possessions. Colorado State (6-2, 4-1) turned three of them into 21 points.
Conditions didn’t slow Damon Washington, who ran for 111 yards and a touchdown, his third 100-yard game of the season and the 12th of his career.
Charlie Higgins provided most of the offense for the Golden Hurricanes, who reached the Colorado State 23 and 25, but failed on fourth-down plays. Tulsa scored on a four-yard touchdown pass from Michael Walls to Jerrold Smith with 4:59 to play.
Higgins rushed 28 times for 134 yards
San Diego State 10, Hawaii 3--For the third consecutive week, Jonas Lewis carried the offensive load as the Aztecs (3-5, 2-2) held on to defeat the Rainbows (3-5, 1-4) in a WAC game Saturday at Honolulu.
The Aztecs had to go to Lewis after they lost their top offensive player, receiver Az-zahir Hakim, early in the game after he pulled a hamstring while scoring on a 40-yard pass play.
Lewis rushed for 129 yards on 30 carries, making it the third consecutive game in which he topped the century mark.
The San Diego State defense staved off a potential tying score late in the fourth quarter as the Rainbows drove to the Aztec three, but Scott Johnson sacked Josh Skinner on fourth and goal to end the threat.
The teams exchanged field goals for the other scores.
