Storr Activated, Goes to Ice Dogs

Goaltender Jamie Storr, who has been on injured reserve all season because of a groin injury, was activated Tuesday and assigned to the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the International Hockey League.

“We just want to get him in some games,” Coach Larry Robinson said about Storr, who has not played since the second week of training camp. “We want him to face some shots. . . . We didn’t want to have him playing against [NHL teams] right away. We want to bring him along a little slower.”

The Kings had a record-breaking night in their 2-2 tie at Florida. Their 12 shots on goal broke the franchise mark of 13 and their zero shots in the first period broke the record of one, which happened five times, most recently March 28, 1995 at Calgary.

Goaltender Stephane Fiset, who made 24 saves to improve to 3-5-3, said he noticed the lack of shots early in the game. “When a team gets 18 shots and you don’t have one [you notice],” he said.

The Kings did not record their first shot on goal until the 9:45 mark in the second period.

“I knew once we started, it [would be tough on Florida goalie Mark Fitzpatrick] because when you don’t face a lot of shots, you are not sharp,” Fiset said.

King players who didn’t dress were forward Roman Vopat, defenseman Philippe Boucher and rookies Donald MacLean and Olli Jokinen. The Panthers did not dress Dallas Eakins, Johan Garpenlov, Dave Nemirovsky and Rob Niedermayer, who is still recovering from a concussion.
