Share

Just as budget negotiations with city departments are getting underway, Mayor Richard Riordan’s budget director has announced that he is resigning to pursue a career in the private sector.

Budget Director Chris O’Donnell has been with the administration since 1994. He is one of a number of high-profile figures on Riordan’s staff to leave in recent months.

“Chris has been a tremendous asset to my administration and to the city of Los Angeles,” Riordan said. “His keen sense of fiscal management proved instrumental in balancing the city budget for the last three years.”

Since taking on the top budget job, O’Donnell has also been instrumental in several projects, including an audit of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority budget and negotiations on the Department of Water and Power’s use of water drawn from the Eastern Sierra. According to the mayor’s office, O’Donnell has agreed to continue shepherding the water negotiations even after he leaves his post.

O’Donnell’s resignation is effective Nov. 3. No replacement has been named.
