Chapman Wins Regular-Season Finale in Men’s Soccer

Chapman, which hopes to secure a playoff berth in the Western Region, defeated Pomona Pitzer, 4-1, Wednesday in nonconference men’s soccer in Orange.

Chapman, playing its last regular-season game, is ranked sixth in the Western Region. Six teams qualify for the playoffs.

The host Panthers scored all of their goals in the second half. Brad Carter, Aaron Poling, Mike Sterner and Jason Hospedales, who had two assists, scored for Chapman (13-5-1). Steven Farley scored for Pomona Pitzer (8-5-1).

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s soccer:

Westmont 4, Southern California College 0--The Warriors clinched their fifth consecutive conference title. SCC dropped to 13-6, 5-4.

In men’s tennis:

Wilkins advances--UC Irvine’s Robbie Wilkins advanced to the next round in qualifying singles and doubles of the Rolex/ITA Southern California men’s regionals at UC Irvine.

Wilkins defeated UC Santa Barbara’s Scott Cotich, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, in the second round of men’s singles. He teamed with Jeff Riba in doubles and swept, 6-2, 6-4.

Wilkins advanced to the second round with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over George Mouuguong . Riba lost his first-round match in singles to Pepperdine’s A.J. de Leon, 7-5, 6-1.

In nonconference men’s water polo:

No. 6 UC Irvine 10, No. 10 Long Beach State 5--Senior Robert Allaire and his sophomore brother Mike, scored three goals each to lead the Anteaters (7-10).
