Alemany Puts Up Fight, Goes Down to Bishop Amat

Alemany High’s performance against Bishop Amat in Thursday night’s Del Rey League matchup at Alemany was not what might have been expected, based on the records of the teams.

Casey Clausen completed 12 of 23 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns to make the Indians competitive but the Lancers pulled away for a 49-28 victory.

Clausen did throw one interception that led to a touchdown that gave Bishop Amat a 7-6 lead in the second quarter.

He connected on scoring plays of 61 yards to Eddie Cicoria in the first quarter, 15 yards to Deandre Scott to make the score 14-12 in favor of Bishop Amat (7-1, 2-1 in league play) with 3:26 left in the second quarter and five yards to Johnny Walker with 7:10 left in the fourth quarter to bring the Indians to within 42-28.

Walker had four receptions for 34 yards and Cicoria had two receptions for 76 yards.

Scott also had a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that got Alemany (2-8, 0-3) to within 35-20 late in the third quarter.

Mike Wagner did the damage for the Lancers with 184 yards in 18 carries and touchdown runs of four, 65 and 13 yards before leaving the game in the third quarter with a hip injury.

Anthony Chacon carried nine times for 40 yards and scored on runs of 13 and 23 yards in the fourth quarter.

Bishop Amat amassed 285 yards and five touchdowns rushing while quarterback Sean Koelle completed 11 of 19 passes for 166 yards with two touchdown plays to Dennis Wyrick.

Wyrick finished with six receptions for 97 yards, with the scoring plays going for 26 and seven yards.

Miguel Fletcher of Alemany rushed for 81 yards in 15 carries but lost two fumbles in the second half that led to Bishop Amat touchdowns.

The Indians finished with 288 yards.
