Firefighters from three agencies contained a fire early Thursday to one apartment in a 301-unit complex on Beach Boulevard.

Seventy-five firefighters responded to a 1 a.m. fire at Beachwood Apartments, 600 S. Beach Blvd., which destroyed the one apartment and caused smoke and heat damage to three others, Fire Department spokeswoman Tabby Cato said.

Cato said Anaheim Police Officer Chuck Erikson, who was patrolling the area, spotted the fire and called for help.

A 23-year-old man who suffered smoke inhalation and a 7-week-old boy, also exposed to smoke, were treated at a local hospital and released, Cato said.

Numerous apartments were evacuated, and three families were displaced by the fire.

Estimated damage is $75,000 and the cause of the fire, which Cato said is suspicious, is under investigation.
