A 25-year-old man was wounded early Saturday when an angry male motorist fired six rounds into a car after a freeway altercation near the Pond.

The victim, whose name was not released, was shot once in the right shoulder but was able to drive himself to a Corona Regional Hospital for treatment, said California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Angel Johnson.

The victim was traveling north on the Pomona Freeway when the 3:30 a.m. shooting occurred. He had just entered the freeway from Katella Avenue and merged his 1989 Honda Accord in front of a older-model Ford Ranger pick-up truck, angering its driver.

The driver of the truck began flashing his lights and driving close behind the victim, according to the CHP.

“He then pulled alongside the Honda and fired approximately six rounds into the vehicle,” Johnson said.

The truck, which is dark gray and has a missing rear tailgate light, continued north on the freeway before getting off on Lincoln Avenue.

The driver is described as a male Latino, about 30, with short black hair and a mustache. He remains at large. The CHP is asking any possible witnesses to call (714) 223-5454.
