Elton John’s Song for Diana a Brisk Seller

Share
From Times Wire Reports

Demand for Elton John’s musical tribute to Princess Diana was so overwhelming on the first day of sales in Britain that manufacturers rushed to press 1 million extra copies. At Mercury Records, the staff was working overtime after stores sold most of the first shipment of 250,000 compact discs within hours of opening their doors. The “Candle in the Wind” CD is selling for $6.40, with all proceeds going to the Diana, Princess of Wales, Memorial Fund. Music industry sources expect John’s reworked version of his 1970s tribute to Marilyn Monroe to raise $16 million for the fund.
