Downtown Liaison Police Officer Named
The Police Department has appointed Denise Weiland as the city’s first downtown liaison officer.
Weiland’s assignment will be to patrol the newly revitalized downtown, including the Gateway Shopping Center, Ash Street Cottages housing development, the Edwards Theater now under construction and future restaurants along Birch Street.
A downtown police annex, where Weiland will be stationed, is expected to open this fall. City officials said public safety is a high priority in the revitalized downtown, a massive 10-year undertaking costing more than $125 million in public and private funds.
