SANTA ANA — Two Orange County men face criminal charges of filing fraudulent workers’ compensation claims, the state Department of Insurance said.
A preliminary hearing for Jorge E. Munoz, 43, of Costa Mesa is scheduled for Oct. 21 on four counts of insurance fraud. He allegedly misrepresented an injury as one he received before being fired from Ricoh Electronics in Tustin. He remains in jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Sergio Cordero, 41, of Garden Grove is charged with two counts of insurance fraud relating to a claim filed for an injury while he was employed as a gardener at the Garden Grove Unified School District. Two weeks after the injury, he allegedly was filmed working as a gardener for his own business, Sergio’s Landscape & Maintenance. He is free after posting $10,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 8.
Both men were arrested Sept. 9 at their homes.
