Motto Contest Draws Nearly 190 Entries
A three-month contest has produced nearly 190 suggestions for a city motto.
Seven residents will study the entries and select three finalists that will be turned over to the City Council for a final decision, said Marilyn Johnson of Orange Tree Realty, which is sponsoring the contest.
Johnson said she got the idea for the competition when she realized that Villa Park was one of the few Orange County communities without a motto.
“We were really surprised by the input of residents,” Johnson said.
The majority of the entries extol the friendliness of Villa Park and the warmth of its residents, Johnson said. “The best thing is that people are making a statement about our city,” Johnson said.
Still, some weren’t on track. One entry proposed calling Villa Park “The Land of Parks,” but the city doesn’t have a single park, Johnson said.
The author of the winning motto will receive $100.
