City, Homeowners Join in Road Repair Project

Share

In an unusual arrangement, the city and a homeowners association are joining forces to repair Durango Drive and its sidewalks.

Casitas California Townhome Assn., which owns most of the sidewalks along its property, learned the city was going to repair Durango and asked to be included in the project, Public Works Director Donald K. Jensen said.

“This is unique,” he said of the agreement. “The city will do the work and the homeowners will [help] pay for it.”

The entire project will cost $270,000, and the association will kick in about $83,000 of that to replace the walkways, according to the agreement.

Along with sidewalks, city employees will replace the asphalt on the road and repair driveway approaches and wheelchair ramps that belong to the association.

Construction is set to begin in November and end in January.
