Fans of “The Greatest” will have a shot at owning some 3,000 pieces of Muhammad Ali memorabilia, set to go on the block at Christie’s in Beverly Hills on Oct. 19. Shown above and expected to bring in knockout amounts are a white terry cloth robe worn by Ali in his first title fight with Sonny Liston in 1964, the pair of Everlast trunks Ali wore in his 1974 upset victory over George Foreman in Kinshasa, Zaire and the brown Everlast gloves worn in the 1967 fight in which Ali defended his Heavyweight title for the ninth time by defeating Zora Folley at Madison Square Garden. Personal items include a six-page signed letter requesting Selective Service officials to exempt Ali from the draft on moral and religious grounds (estimated to bring $100,000).

The collection, assembled by longtime Ali fan and Marina del Rey resident Ronnie Paloger, also features boxing gloves, shoes, photographs, trophies, fight tickets, programs, posters and handwritten letters. Estimates for these items range from $300 to $30,000. A portion of the auction’s proceeds will benefit the Muhammad Ali World Healing Project, which promotes tolerance and understanding.
