One Ventura firefighter was injured Sunday while battling an early morning garage blaze.

The firefighter, whose name has not been released, injured his back while fighting the flames, which erupted about 1:15 a.m. in the detached garage of a home in the 100 block of St. Pauls Drive.

The status of the firefighter and the extent of his injury were not available. There were no other injuries.

Investigators determined that the fire, which caused about $70,000 in damage, started after some solvent-soaked rags spontaneously combusted. In addition to the structure, which was destroyed, a 1957 Porsche Speedster was severely damaged in the blaze. No damage to any surrounding homes was reported.
