An elderly woman was struck and killed Wednesday morning while crossing at an intersection that did not have a marked crosswalk, authorities said.
The name of the woman--believed to be in her 80s--had not been released pending notification of relatives, said Sgt. Ben Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic division.
The accident occurred about 7:40 a.m. on eastbound Sherman Way at Fullbright Avenue, according to authorities.
The woman suffered massive trauma, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Paramedics found her on the street with a faint pulse, Humphrey said. She was rushed to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where she died shortly after arriving.
The driver of the vehicle had not been cited because investigators had not found signs of gross negligence, Lee said. Neither drugs nor alcohol were thought to have played a role in the accident, according to police.
The incident remains under investigation.
