Wright is Just Fine For El Camino Real

After running at half-speed during practice this week, Quincy Wright, El Camino Real High’s senior tailback, scored three touchdowns in the Conquistadores’ 55-7 victory over Canoga Park Friday night.

Wright suffered a foot injury in practice last week and struggled in the Conquistadores’ 15-0 victory over Chaminade.

After gaining 228 yards in the season-opener against North Hollywood, Wright was held to 93 against the Eagles.

Against Canoga Park, he rushed for 97 yards in 11 carries, playing only in the first half.

Early birds: Canyon Coach Larry Mohr had his team revved up and ready to go an hour before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. start time for the Cowboys’ game Crescenta Valley Friday night.

Only one problem:

There was no place to play.

The field at Glendale High was taken by the Canyon-Crescenta Valley junior varsity, which lasted until 6:55.

Mohr had Canyon running full-contact, 11-on-11 drills 15 minutes before game time.

“We could have had a full practice by now,” Mohr said.

Full strength: Agoura’s Dylan Hull, a starter at fullback and linebacker, returned to action after being suspended for the first two games by school administrators for fighting.

Hull, a senior, is one of several Charger players who missed one or both of the first two weeks because of injury or suspension.

“We have all our starters back,” Coach Charlie Wegher said. “And we are very glad Dylan is back.”

Agoura celebrated by upsetting ninth-ranked Rio Mesa, 33-14.

Enemy is us: Sylmar out-gained Antelope Valley, 228-74, in the first half of their intersectional showdown.

However, the Spartans were penalized nine times for 70 yards and were tied, 7-7.

In Bounds: Taft junior K.C. Bounds lost out in the battle to become the Toreadors’ starting quarterback, but he’s still making a big contribution--as a receiver.

Late in the first quarter of Taft’s 18-6 victory over Dorsey, Bounds caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Steve Alvarado.

Alvarado was understudy to Nick DiPadvoa last year.

Bragging rights: The Marmonte League won three of five games against Channel League rivals Friday, but the Channel still leads the series this year, 9-7.
