Ken Griffey Jr., Jay Buhner and Glenallen Hill homered in the fifth inning Friday night as the Seattle Mariners got their first win of the season, 11-6 over the Boston Red Sox.

David Segui added a homer, his third, in the eighth for the Mariners. Seattle, which has 10 homers in three games, set a major-league record with 264 last season.

The Mariners, outscored 19-16 in losing their first two games to Cleveland this week, got help from the Red Sox, who committed four errors that led to three unearned runs.

With the score tied, 3-3, Seattle collected six straight hits in the fifth inning off Derek Lowe (0-1) and Rich Garces for their six runs.

Alex Rodriguez opened with a single and Griffey followed with his second homer of the season. Edgar Martinez singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on David Segui’s single.

Garces replaced Lowe and gave up a two-run homer to Buhner, his second, and Hill followed with his first in the AL since 1993.

After Randy Johnson and Jamie Moyer failed in their first starts of the season, Ken Cloude (1-0) gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings.

The Red Sox, who did not hit a home run in their first two games, took a 3-1 lead on homers by Scott Hatteberg in the third and Nomar Garciaparra in the fourth.

Boston took a 1-0 lead in the first when John Valentin singled and scored on Mo Vaughn’s double and an error by Griffey.
