AROUND THE LEAGUES

Undrafted first baseman Kevin Millar (Hart High) was promoted to the Florida Marlins on Monday, completing a remarkable five-year climb through the minors. Millar, 26, was signed by St. Paul of the independent Northern League in 1993 when he was 21, spent two seasons in Class-A and two more at double-A Portland, Maine. He became a legitimate prospect last season, batting .342 with 32 home runs, 34 doubles and 131 runs batted in to earn Eastern League most valuable player honors. Millar did not play Monday in the Marlins’ 9-8 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.
