Four Simi Valley residents were injured Thursday afternoon when two cars collided at the intersection of Madera Road and Royal Avenue, authorities said.

The injured were taken to Simi Valley Hospital after the 2:53 p.m. crash, said Simi Valley Police Officer Dave Cowan. The victims were expected to be released from the hospital Thursday evening, Cowan said.

Authorities believe Jeannette Reich , 56, who was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier, may have started a left turn onto Royal Avenue in front of an on-coming Acura that had the right of way on Madera Road, Cowan said.

Both drivers told officers that the traffic signal was yellow. No citations were issued, he said.

Reich was treated for chest pain apparently inflicted by a seat belt, and her daughter, Allison, 22, was treated for pain in an ankle. Reich’s grandson, 3, was riding in a car seat and was not injured, Cowan said.

Acura driver Glynis Littell , 55, of Simi Valley, and her husband, William, 65, were treated for neck and back pains, Cowan said.

The crash caused minor traffic delays in all directions, primarily because schools in the area were letting out.
